multi-sensory immersion
Based on Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s Flow Theory, I incorporate visual and spatial elements into my installations where listeners become engrossed into the works that create a sense of loss of time and induce a mental state of flow, where no other activity matters during that time. This work includes color theory based on sound-color and emotion-color synesthesia, emotion-smell sensory connections, and knowledge of spatial design to build safe, accessible environments, for processing through written reflection and movement.
perception and reality
Based on James Gibson’s Ecological Perception Theory, which emphasizes the importance of environment and context in learning, my works allow listeners to adapt to their spatial environment through the use of relevant soundscapes that would be found in the environment. This work delves into the realms of perception, reality, and the exploration of human senses through immersion. Beyond the conscious mind, I engage listeners’ physiology to respond to natural elements for increased awareness, in transition away from cognitive dissonance into the present moment. This relationship between sound and space is the fundamental nature of their experience.
live performance
Richard Gerrig’s Narrative Transportation Theory proposes that when people lose themselves in a story, their attitudes and intentions change to reflect that story. Many of my works are designed for live performances, where I curate the flow of the show according to the concept designed for that audience. The narrative is supported by the arrangement of songs in their order, the use of real life examples and analogies, and exercises each listener can practice during portions of the performance to fully immerse themselves in their story without distraction.
Overall, my methodology is characterized by a deep curiosity about the emotional and physical effects of sound and noise on the listener. My works challenge traditional notions of music performance and sound integration through the engagement of innovative technology and the activation of the human mind in its most aware state. I invite audiences to reconsider their auditory perceptions within their spatial contexts.
